Beth Bortz appointed to ABFM Board of Directors

VCHI’s President and CEO, Beth Bortz, was recently appointed to the American Board of Family Medicine board of directors.  Ms. Bortz will serve on the ABFM board as its public representative.  She was nominated to the board by Newport News physician, Dr. John Brady.  He and Norfolk physician Dr. Christine Matson, are a member and an officer of the ABFM board respectively.  Ms. Bortz considers this appointment to be a great honor and looks forward to learning from and contributing to the work of the ABFM.


About the ABFM

The American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) is the second largest medical specialty board in the United States. Founded in 1969, it is a voluntary, not-for-profit, private organization whose purposes include:

  • Improving the quality of medical care available to the public
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of excellence in the specialty of Family Medicine
  • Improving the standards of medical education for training in Family Medicine
  • Determining by evaluation the fitness of specialists in Family Medicine who apply for and hold certificates
